Sea Girt Engagement Photographer Favorites: Amanda & Peter’s Golden Hour Beach Session

When Amanda first reached out, she had one specific vision. They wanted their session to feel like two different stories in one evening. First, a romantic and editorial chapter. Then, a real, candid, laughing-until-your-stomach-hurts chapter. As a Sea Girt engagement photographer, I knew exactly the right location and the perfect golden hour window to bring that to life.

What followed was one of my favorite sessions of the year. And spoiler: the sky completely delivered.

Why Sea Girt Is My Go-To for Sunset Engagement Sessions

Sea Girt holds a special place in my heart as a New Jersey shore photographer. There’s a quiet elegance to this beach town that sets it apart. No busy boardwalk, no carnival noise — just wide open beach and clean Atlantic air. Additionally, the sunset light here is some of the most breathtaking I’ve ever photographed.

As a Sea Girt engagement photographer, I’ve watched that horizon turn every shade of gold, coral, and rose. But the evening of Amanda and Peter’s session was in a category of its own. We had a clear sky, with just enough wispy clouds to hold the color. Furthermore, the warm light lingered on the beach for nearly a full hour. Simply put, it was the kind of light that makes even ordinary moments feel cinematic.

Moreover, Sea Girt is beautifully uncrowded at golden hour. That meant we had the shoreline almost entirely to ourselves. No strangers in the background, no summer crowd noise. Just Amanda, Peter, the ocean, and that incredible sky.

The Two-Outfit Engagement Session: How Amanda Made It Work

This is where Amanda’s session becomes a masterclass in engagement planning. In fact, it’s a strategy I’ll be recommending to every couple going forward.

She arrived with two completely different outfits. Each one was designed to tell a different story.

First Look: The Elegant White Gown

Amanda’s first dress was long, flowing, and romantic. Specifically, it was a white gown that moved beautifully in the coastal breeze. Against the warm tones of the setting sun and the pale gold of the Sea Girt sand, it looked absolutely stunning. This was the editorial portion of the evening: slow walks along the water’s edge, quiet moments facing the horizon. As a result, every frame felt polished and almost otherworldly.

Peter matched the energy perfectly. Together, the two of them in this look were breathtaking — the kind of portraits that stop you mid-scroll.

Second Look: The Casual Short Dress

After we captured those sweeping romantic images, Amanda changed into a shorter, more relaxed dress. Immediately, the whole session transformed. The energy shifted from still and romantic to playful and alive. We laughed, chased the waves, and caught genuine moments between two people who are just genuinely happy together.

This is the part of an engagement session I always treasure most. When the posing falls away, you’re simply documenting real love in real time. That’s where the magic lives. Furthermore, Amanda’s second look made that possible in a way that one outfit never could have.

So if you’re on the fence about a wardrobe change, let Amanda and Peter be your sign. The range it gives your final gallery is absolutely worth the outfit swap.

The Sunset: A Sea Girt Engagement Photographer’s Dream

First, let’s talk about the light — because it truly deserves its own section.

Golden hour at Sea Girt is something I look forward to at every session. However, not every evening cooperates. On Amanda and Peter’s night, the sky was showing off. As the sun dropped toward the waterline, it cast a warm, saturated glow across the beach. Consequently, the light made skin look luminous, white fabric look golden, and every moment look like a painting.

We started in the last full hour of sunlight. Then we shot straight through to the soft blue of dusk. Each phase told a different story — from the rich warmth of golden hour to the cooler, softer tones after sunset. As a result, the variety in the gallery from that natural light progression alone is extraordinary.

In short, if you’re considering a sunset engagement session on the Jersey Shore, Sea Girt is the place. It is, without question, the best light of the day.

Amanda & Peter: Getting Married at Nanina’s in the Park

These two are tying the knot next July at Nanina’s in the Park, and I’ve been smiling about it ever since they told me. It’s a beautiful venue — full of warmth, character, and a setting that lets genuine love take center stage.

What I noticed most during the session wasn’t any single perfect frame. Instead, it was the consistency of how they were with each other. Tender, easy, attentive. Peter has a quiet steadiness you feel the moment you’re around him. Meanwhile, Amanda has a brightness that fills every space she’s in. Together, they balance each other in that rare way that makes you think: yes, these two absolutely belong together.

By the time the sun went down, I didn’t want the evening to end. That’s always the mark of a truly great couple to photograph — when you’re sad to pack up the camera.

Amanda and Peter, I cannot wait for your wedding day. Nanina’s in the Park is going to be magical.
