As a Bear Brook Valley photographer, I’ve had the privilege of documenting some truly beautiful days at this venue. Still, some weddings stand apart from the rest. Gab and Jaret’s May wedding was one of them. Every corner held something beautiful. The couple was radiantly themselves. And the guests were so full of joy that I almost forgot I was working.
From the moment I arrived, it was clear this day would be something special. The details were intentional, layered, and deeply personal. The color palette was a cool, romantic blue paired with white and blush florals. It ran through everything — bridesmaids’ gowns, groomsmen’s suits, and the soft arrangements that filled the space. Overall, it felt elevated but never overdone. Polished, but still full of warmth.
If you’ve never visited Bear Brook Valley in Warren County, New Jersey, let me paint the picture. The property sits in the rolling hills of northwestern NJ. It’s surrounded by open fields and mature trees that make every outdoor photo feel magazine-worthy. In May, everything is green and blooming. The air is soft, the light is golden, and the whole venue practically glows.
For Gab and Jaret, Bear Brook Valley wasn’t just a backdrop. It was the perfect home for the day they envisioned. Specifically, the venue’s indoor-outdoor flow made it easy to move from the getting-ready suites to the ceremony lawn to cocktail hour and into the reception. As a result, the day never lost its momentum.
The morning started with quiet, easy energy — coffee, laughter, and the comfort of a group of lifelong friends. Gab’s bridesmaids wore gorgeous blue gowns in the exact shade that would carry through the entire day. Their joy set the tone for everything that followed.
Meanwhile, the florals were already making their presence known. White and blush arrangements felt soft and romantic without being fussy. Bouquets, getting-ready details, buttonholes — each element was clearly chosen with care.
Jaret and the groomsmen were equally polished. The navy and blue suits were sharp, coordinated, and completely in keeping with the day’s aesthetic. In short, the bridal party portraits practically photographed themselves.
One of my favorite things about shooting at Bear Brook Valley is the outdoor ceremony space. It’s genuinely stunning. Gab and Jaret said their vows outside, surrounded by their people, under the warmth of a May afternoon.
There is something irreplaceable about an outdoor ceremony. The light is real. The air moves. The emotions on a couple’s face are fully visible — not filtered through a dim interior. I watched Jaret’s face as Gab made her way down the aisle. In that moment, I knew: this was going to be a great day.
The ceremony was personal and moving. Guests laughed and cried in the same breath. And then — just like that — they were married.
If the ceremony was the heart of the day, the reception was the exhale — loud, joyful, and completely alive.
First, the room itself was beautifully dressed. The blue and blush palette translated perfectly into the reception space through florals, linens, and candlelight. It felt romantic and celebratory all at once. Truly, you could look around and think they didn’t miss a thing.
Then the music started. The dance floor filled up. And it never really emptied again.
That’s the mark of a great wedding — when the energy carries all night and the couple keeps ending up at the center of the room. Gab and Jaret had that in spades. Furthermore, the photos from those hours are some of my absolute favorites: motion, light, and pure, unfiltered celebration from the first song to the last.
I have to talk about it. Because it was perfect.
Late in the evening, the night reached that beautiful peak where everyone is breathless from dancing. The best memories of the day were already solidifying. And then — out came the McDonald’s.
Late-night food at weddings has become a beloved tradition. However, there’s something about McDonald’s specifically that just works. It’s nostalgic. It’s fun. It gets a genuine reaction out of every single guest. In fact, it breaks the fourth wall of the formal wedding in the best possible way — like a wink at the end of a perfect speech.
Gab and Jaret’s guests absolutely lost it (in the best way). And honestly? So did I.
As a New Jersey wedding photographer, I’ve shot at many beautiful venues across the state. Nevertheless, Bear Brook Valley holds a special place on that list.
The property photographs beautifully in every season. However, May is something else entirely. The landscape is lush, the light is soft and long, and there’s a romantic countryside quality to the venue you simply don’t find everywhere. Additionally, the indoor-outdoor layout creates natural variety throughout the day. By the time the night ends, the gallery tells a complete, layered story.
If you’re planning a Bear Brook Valley wedding and searching for a photographer who knows the venue and the light, I’d love to connect. I believe in being invisible when I need to be and close when it matters. Above all, I let your day unfold naturally while making sure nothing slips by undocumented.
